ECORES Summer School

Organized by ECORES

ECORES is a research and teaching institution which federates three centers of excellence:  CES (Center for Economic Studies, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven), CORE (Center for Operations Research and Econometrics, Université catholique de Louvain), and ECARES (European Center for Advanced Research in Economics and Statistics, Université libre de Bruxelles).

In much of economic analysis, market power is assumed away and interactions between firms and consumers are analyzed in a hypothetical situation of perfect competition. Often, this merely serves as a first step in the analysis or it provides a welfare benchmark. Market power is then introduced in the complete analysis with explicit consideration of strategic interaction.

Our invited speakers will discuss different theoretical and empirical aspects of the functioning of markets. Paul Klemperer (Oxford University) will talk about the theory and the design of multi-object auctions. Marc Melitz (Harvard University) will investigate the theoretical and empirical connection of firm heterogeneity and trade. And Ariel Pakes (Harvard University) will present methodologies for empirical analysis in industrial organization.
