The strong approximation method in probability and statistics

István Berkes, Department of Statistics, Graz University of Technology

Abstract: Statistical inference frequently requires proving limit theorems for linear and nonlinear functionals of random variable sequences and the strong approximation (or strong invariance) method is one of the most powerful techniques to do this. In our talk, we give a survey of the field, discuss the most important historical developments and formulate some new results with applications.
